Sonadow - Far Away
Chapter 2

"So, what kind of book are you reading?" Sonic asked as he stepped into the room, finally regaining self-control. "I don't know, I've just started reading it" Sonic shook his head with a soft laugh. "I meant the name of the book silly" Shadow looked at him, frowning. "It doesn't have a name." Sonic started to think about that. Which book of his hasn't got a name...?
Sonic snapped the book out of his hands. "H-hey, give that back!" Shadow shouted. "No way, this book is not for you" Sonic said and ran out to the kitchen. "Jeez, what's his problem today...?" Shadow asked himself, feeling a little irritated.
Sonic let out a sigh. The book Shadow started to read was his diary. His love diary, to be exact. Every single woman he liked in his life, the way he felt for them, all in those lines. It was really personal, and he read it back every month, just to feel the love he knew those times. How much Shadow read...?
He pulled down his fingers on the back of the book. He felt like writing in it again. He opened it, and saw that it was half-empty. No, that's not right, it's half-full, be optimistic; Sonic thought. He searched for a pen, sat down at the table and started to write.
Dear Love Diary,
I think I should write in you again. Something strange happened to me today. I started to like a boy. And I'm not gay. At least I think I'm not.
I offered him my help although I'm the one who needs help. I've never felt this strange before. It's just...not right. I don't want to fall in love with a guy. But I don't know how I could stop. Wish you could give me some tips at least. Well, maybe I should read my previous experiences again, to find a clue.

With that he put down the pen. He went back to the beginning of the book and started reading. After about 10 minutes, Shadow called from his room. "Sonic, what takes you so long? I'm bored" "Oh sorry, I just started to read and forgot to go back" he shouted back, and hid the book in the cupboard. He walked back, finding Shadow in his normal clothes. "I think I told you it's okay, you shouldn't have changed back" Sonic sat on his bed. "But as I saw you didn't like the idea of me being in those clothes" Shadow said, and picked up a note from the floor. "Do you need reminders...? And I thought I'm the one with amnesia..." Sonic lyed down. "Shut up, it happens to everyone that they forget some stuff..." "So, you don't know what you forgot huh?" Shadow said in an irritated voice. Sonic's ears perked down. "Oh yeah, sorry. Let's go and see if we can find anything." He got up, grabbed Shadow's arm and pulled him along. "H-hey, slow down hedgehog-" Shadow shouted, and Sonic stopped. "Now what? I thought you want to know what happened in your past" Shadow looked at him with a serious look. "Riiiight, but don't you think we should discuss where to search at least and not just going into the mist?" "Oh, I didn't. Sorry" Sonic rubbed the back of his head.

They searched until night. "I think this is enough for today" Sonic yawned. He didn't really want to do the same uncomfortable sleeping on the roof in school again. Shadow looked down, unsatisfied with the result of the search. "Okay, you can go back and sleep. But I'll search a little more" Shadow said. "Aw no buddy you're coming with me and you're going to sleep too" Sonic felt himself as a parent. Like he could leave him alone in the town for the night. "I'm not tired, and I can take care of myself you know" Shadow said with his usual irritated tone. Sonic sighed. "I don't think you should do this, I mean, we have the whole day tomorrow after I finish school-" "I don't have time" Shadow blurted out. "Why? You remembered something from your past? Is that telling you you can't wait?" Sonic looked into his eyes. "Something's wrong. I don't feel like myself. I have to find my past as soon as possible, or maybe I won't accept my true self later" Sonic let out a silent laugh. "You're talking like you had been the greatest villain in your past" "...You can never be sure..." Shadow whispered. There was an awkward silence for a minute. "Well, let's just not assume something like this" Sonic said softly. Shadow let out a sigh. "Right. See you later then" and with that, he disappeared. Sonic blinked and looked around, but he couldn't see where he ran off. Did he really run...? "He's sure mysterious" Sonic said to himself, and ran home. He started to miss him already. "This is not right" he whispered as he walked into his room. He put the books back to the shelves, stopping at every piece and reading into them as they were all opened at the page Shadow stopped reading them. Each of them was opened almost at the beginning. "You didn't like any of these stories huh..." Sonic spoke to himself. He started to wonder how much Shadow had read from his diary. He realised that he had read at least the 60% of it. Sonic folded his ears down. This was something he didn't want to show his new friend. At least not now...

Meanwhile, Shadow was meeting with someone, although he didn't remember who it was, just that they had to meet that night.
"So you came after all" a cunning voice said. "You're lucky that I remembered the date" Shadow spoke. The mysterious person came out of the dark. "Well sweetie, it's a pleasure to know that at least you didn't forget everything~" "I told you, it's just luck" Shadow folded his arms. "My my, don't be so rude to Ol' Rouge~" the bat girl stepped closer to him. Shadow looked at her, annoyed. "You're irritating" he said. "Hoooh, you haven't changed a bit Shadow" Rouge spoke with her cunning tone. "Well, that's at least some information about my past self" Shadow said softly. "Duh, don't tell me you have amnesia again..." Rouge sighed. "I can't do much about it, but you can help me as I see" Shadow turned his head to the big skyscapers which were above the whole city near the town. "Of course I can help you, but first of all, try to be a little kind to me darling" Rouge leaned to Shadow and placed her hand on his shoulder. "Don't worry, soon you will remember everything... now let's go to the city, shall we?" and with that Rouge turned round and flew into the air. "Just show me the way" Shadow said, and ran after the bat.

Sonic got up and rubbed his eyes. "Damn, it's already morning~" he yawned and looked around his room. Shadow's bed was untouched. "I thought he would arrive until morning..." Sonic lyed down to Shadow's bed. "Hm...it was his scent..." he mumbled and fell asleep again.

"Sonic, wake up" Shadow was shaking Sonic's shoulder. "hm......let me sleep 5 minutes more..." Sonic mumbled. "I would, but don't you have school?" Sonic got up immediately. "Oh god I'm gonna be late again!!!" he shouted and started to change clothes in a hurry. "You're so spread" Shadow said softly and lyed down his bed. Sonic started to search for a shirt in his wardrobe, but found nothing. "Gosh, I know there must be one-" he stopped in mid-sentence, realising that the last shirt was on Shadow. "Something's wrong?" Shadow asked behind him. "WHAA!!" Sonic shouted and fell over. "H-how the hell did you get behind me..." he rubbed his back as he hit the floor strongly. "That's my ability" Shadow answered softly and dropped a shirt to Sonic's lap. He picked it up, and saw that it was almost like Shadow's shirt, but had little differences. "Ah-oh-uhm, thanks I guess. Where did you get this by the way?" Sonic asked. "I found my belongings yesterday and I brought them with me" he answered and lyed down his bed again. "Hey, that's great! Found out anything else?" Sonic's eyes shone with excitement. "Aren't you late already hedgehog" Shadow mumbled. "Oh jeez well thanks for reminding, see ya later" Sonic put the shirt on, picked up his bag and ran out.

Of course he had to met his worst dream every morning. "Sonikku~ Wow, you've got a new shirt!!" Amy showed up in a second as he walked through the schoolgate. "Oh, hi Amy...uhm, yeah, like it?" Sonic tried to be kind and not to run away from her. "I don't know, it's strange in a way....uh, I mean it suits you well!!!" Amy shouted the last part of the sentence and smiled nervously. Sonic raised an eyebrow.  "Uh I have to go now, I'm late already you know" he said looking at the main door of the school. "Oh yeah sorry, I keep forgetting you have class on Thursday mornings" Amy still smiled nervously. She didn't have the first lesson on Mondays and Thursdays, but she was still in school just to catch Sonic every morning... "Don't mind it. Well, laterz!" Sonic waved and ran out of sight. Amy held down her skirt. "I think I told him at least a thousand times to not run with that speed..." she turned round and walked to her classmates.

Sonic couldn't concentrate on the lessons. All he could think of was Shadow. How much did he get to know about his past...? And of course, if he could forget about him for a minute, he would remember to him anyway; the shirt had his scent strongly.
The bell rang like a heavenly sound. Sonic rushed out of the school with his fastest speed; he got home in 2 minutes, which was his new record time. He walked into his room, dropped his bag next to his desk and fell into his bed. "Are you still tired Sonic?" Shadow asked from the other bed. "...Just a little." Sonic mumbled. They were silent for 2 minutes, and Sonic felt strange in that time. He turned to Shadow to witness him watching. "Something's on my clothes?" Sonic asked, his flace a little pink by the sudden attention. "No, I was just looking at you" Shadow said softly. "But why?" Sonic snapped at him. Shadow's eyes widened. "No need to shout jeez." "Sorry, I'm just a little pissed off." Shadow looked at the window, deep in thoughts. After 5 seconds he answered. "I was wondering what would happen if I had to fight with you" Sonic sat up. "Why thinking about such things? We're never going to fight, that's sure" he protested. "You can never be sure." Sonic's ears folded down. "And what does it have with the watching? Assessing the chances?" Shadow didn't answer immediately. Many emotions went through his face in those few seconds of silence. He finally turned back to Sonic. "...I was imagining you lying half-dead with all kind of bruises" he whispered. Sonic's ears perked up and he frowned. "...And how did I look? Did you feel victorious?" Sonic tried to get to the end of the talk - he was unsure this was the best time discussing something like this. "...I didn't feel victorious at all. I felt ashamed and guilty" Shadow whispered. Sonic bit his mouth, trying to understand the whole situation. A place where they had to fight, where Shadow defeated him and at the same time he felt guilty for doing such a thing... Did he really care about it that much? If something was more important than their friendship, then why feeling bad...? It has to be the feeling of being a traitor. "So, you felt like betraying your friend?" Sonic wasn't looking at Shadow, he was watching his knees. "Not like betraying, it was like dying" Shadow answered softly. Sonic looked up and into Shadow's eyes. He didn't really understand what he meant. "You don't get it do you..." Shadow looked out of the window again. "Sorry, I'm not good at concluding" Shadow sighed. "Then let's try this later" Sonic frowned again. "I don't think I will change in a short time you know, why don't you just tell me?" Shadow didn't answer. "C'mon, we're friends!" Sonic tried to reason. "Oh yeah, friends..." Shadow pressed the last word. Gosh, he's so hard to understand; Sonic thought. "Okay, let's just drop it and tell me about what you found out yesterday" Sonic sighed. He was curious about that very much in the first place, and didn't want to talk about fighting and stuff.

"So..." Sonic spoke. "You met a girl who you didn't remember and she showed you where you lived and gave you your belongings before you came back" he tried to sum up the talk."And my home had been destroyed" Shadow added. Sonic was deep in thoughts. He was happy to know that Shadow was going to be with him for a long time now, but he was feeling jealous too. Who was that girl in the first place...? "And about that Rouge..." Sonic tried to find the right words. Shadow didn't interrupt, he was just waiting patiently to Sonic. "She... well, is there any chance you had relationship with her?" he finally blurted out. Shadow got surprised. "Why do you care about that...?" he asked. Sonic turned away to hide his red cheeks. "I'm just curious you know, but if you don't want to tell me..." Shadow sat down next to him and turned Sonic's head back to face him. "I didn't have that kind of relationship with her, you don't have to worry" he smirked. Sonic felt like melting away. Shadow looked so attractive... "Oh, I see... And I d-didn't w-worry about i-it..." he stuttered. He couldn't escape Shadow's gaze, it was fixed on him strongly. "Can I ask something Sonic?" he asked in his usual tone. "S-sure..." Sonic was in fact unsure about the question. "Do you feel allright? Don't you have a fever?" Shadow placed his hand on Sonic's forehead. He blushed even harder; Shadow was so close. "You must have" Shadow said to himself and went out of the room for medicine. Sonic blinked a few times, trying to regain control of himself. This wasn't like him at all. He felt the way he did in his past with his most loved girlfriend. Or at least in similar way; this was still something else and he didn't know what to do about it. Was he really going to fall in love...?
